How to participate

Web Portals and Websites

Web portals and websites that wish to participate must agree to:

  • Enable IPv6 on their main website address for at least the testing week. Which means that IPv6 should be available on www.yoursite.com.br, not only on an alternative address like www6.yoursite.com.br or ipv6.yoursite.com.br.
  • Make a web page on their website to explain its participation in the test and the importance of deploying IPv6 on the Internet. This web page should provide a way for users to test their own connectivity in order to detect problems with transition mechanisms such as Teredo and 6to4 automatic tunnel. It also should provide guidance on how to solve such problems. Some good examples are the web pages created for the participation in the IPv6 World Day: http://ipv6.terra.com.br/, http://ipv6day.sapo.pt/, http://ipv6.com.br/.

Ideally, all the participant website should be fully navigable in IPv6, however, if that is not viable, it is accepted that the content (ads, or videos, for example) is partially served only via IPv4.

During the IPv6 week, NIC.br is going to validate the participating websites and keep track of the ones that are successful. Sites that already support IPv6 can also participate.

To join the initiative, you have to send an e-mail to ipv6@nic.br containing the URL of the websites that is going to participate, the e-mail address, the phone number of the owners and a 30px height logo.

Webhosting Providers, Datacenters and other services

Web hosting providers, data centers and other cloud services must agree to:
  • Enable IPv6 on their services before the IPv6 Week. Ideally, it should be done by December 2011.
  • Provide IPv6 to their clients and encourage them to participate on IPv6 Week.
  • Make a web page on their website to explain its participation in the test and the importance of deploying IPv6 on the Internet.

The service providers that already provide IPv6 can also participate.

To join the initiative, you have to send an e-mail to ipv6@nic.br with the contact information, a proposal of how you intend to participate, and a 30px height logo.

Internet service providers (ISP) and telecom operators

ISPs and telecoms that wish to participate, must agree to:
  • Provide IPv6 connectivity (dual stack) to a group of clients, at least during the test week.
  • Support business clients that wish to participate as content providers or service providers by offering them IPv6 connectivity at least during of the tests.
  • Make a web page on their website to explain its participation in the test and the importance of deploying IPv6 on the Internet.

To join the initiative, you have to send an e-mail to ipv6@nic.br with the contact information, a proposal of how you intend to participate, and a 30px height logo.

Internet user companies and other institutions

Internet user companies and other institutions that wish to participate must agree to:

  • Provide IPv6 connectivity (dual stack) to a internal group of users at least during the test week, encouraging them to browse on the participant websites.
  • Participate with its on website in the corresponding category.

Residential Internet Users

Residential users may assist the tests by:

  • Looking for IPv6 connectivity by asking their ISPs about the possibility of enabling IPv6 before the test date.
  • Looking for IPv6 connectivity via Tunnel Broker if the ISP doesn't provide the IPv6 connectivity and the user has some technical network knowledge. We recommend http://www.sixxs.net.
  • Spreading the IPv6 Week event through blogs, social networks like Twitter + Google, Facebook and Orkut, or other medias.

We won't register residential users in this website.
